Case study: Ben MacManus

Meet Ben, a 23 year-old Strongman athlete from Palmerston North. Ben has been competing at a high level for the last 2+ years and is ranked NZ’s Strongest Man in the men’s under 80kg class.

When Ben first walked through the door he was struggling with:

  • Low back pain
  • Shoulder tension
  • Hip tension
  • Limited range of motion (throughout the whole body)
  • Difficulty activating his prime movers (affecting his sport)

Over a 6-week intensive block, Ben worked hard to improve his mobility and re-educate his body on how to move optimally and efficiently. Just weeks after his 6-week block of corrective training, Ben broke the NZ u80 Men’s Monster Dumbbell Press Record with 85kgs! He’s also reaping so many other benefits including:

  • A pain-free low back
  • Comfortable shoulder & hip joints
  • Optimised overhead lifts which Ben feels is due to his shoulder mobility & back strength
  • Enhanced squat & deadlift strength/mobility (and other lower body compound movements)
  • Balanced strength & greater joint mobility throughout the body.

“The work with Cara over the past six weeks has really helped get my body moving better than it ever has as I work towards competing at New Zealand’s Strongest Man under 80kg in August 2023.” Ben is also aiming to compete at the World Champs in West Virginia, USA, Dec 2023.
